What's the catch with the Free Single-User OnTime Professional? Does it Expire? Is it limited?
There is absolutely no catch. The single-user version of OnTime Professional is free, period.
No limit on the number of defects or features or projects or anything else (other than
the number of users - it is a single-user product). It never expires and it doesn't
contain any adware or spyware. It's a genuinely free version of the OnTime Professional! We
think you'll love it, tell your friends about it, and if you're using it in a growing
business environment -- we hope you'll upgrade when you're ready.
How is OnTime licensed and priced?
OnTime Professional is licensed and priced on a per named-user basis. The number of users you need
is calculated based on the number of people who connect to the OnTime database using
one or more of the OnTime clients. For example, if you expect 15 potential users
connecting to the OnTime system, you will need a 15-user license of OnTime (it does
not matter whether your potential 15 users are using OnTime concurrently
- you still need 15 user licenses in this example).
OnTime Express is also licensed based on the number of named users who will be accessing
the OnTime database, however, licenses are available in two tiers: 5 users and Unlimited users. The 5-user edition, formerly $395 is priced at just $5! This was done to eliminate the barrier to entry for very small teams. We want as many dev teams as possible to try and fall in love with OnTime. OnTime Express is feature-packed and easily the best value on the market for light project management and heavy duty bug tracking.

OnTime Pricing page for the most up to date information.
Who else uses OnTime?
OnTime has quickly become the preferred choice for .NET development shops. OnTime
customers include Verifone, Intel, Perot Systems, Motorola, Avanade, Spherion and
XO communications, just to name a few of the more recognizable names. For a bigger
list of customers and their comments, visit the
Testimonials page. Over 7,000 teams around the world use OnTime to help them ship software on time!
Which OnTime interface is right for my team: Web (local), Windows, VS.NET or Hosted?
Although the core functionality of OnTime Web, Windows and Hosted editions are nearly
identical, there are some subtle differences and each development team's requirements
will be unique.
If you want to be up and running as quickly as possible without having to install,
administer, or maintain any software, then OnTime Hosted, accessed through a Web browser makes the most
sense.
On the other hand, if you prefer to control the environment of your software applications
and you already have your own system administrators and servers in place, then
a local installation may provide the best performance and make the most sense.
If your developers use Visual Studio, they will likely wish to run OnTime VS.Net interface. This way, they can run one application and won't have to switch between their development environment and OnTime.
When you purchase OnTime, all three interfaces are included. So, for example, managers can use the Windows client, developers can use the Visual Studio client, and off-site team members can use the web client to access the same OnTime database. If you go with OnTime Hosted, you will need Remote Server (free) in order to run the Windows and/or Visual Studio clients.
Can I use OnTime Web, VS.NET and Windows versions together?
Yes, absolutely! In fact, OnTime was specifically designed to enable users to choose
the interface they prefer. Some users choose to use both web and Windows clients.
For example, some users choose to use the rich OnTime Windows client when they are
at the office and then use the OnTime web client when they are away. With OnTime,
users can seamlessly bounce between the Windows, Web, and VS.NET clients, allowing
them to always use the interface that makes the most sense under their current circumstances.
What do I need in order to use the OnTime Web Services SDK?
You just need a working knowledge of .NET Web Services, C# or VB.NET and a development
environment. Currently, the SDK is only available for installed instances of OnTime.
Can authorized users access our installed OnTime Web System from the Internet or
multiple locations?
Yes! As long as your OnTime Web Edition is installed on a server that is accessible
from the Internet, your users can be anywhere in the world.
How well does OnTime scale? Can it handle thousands of Users?
OnTime was designed from the ground up with scalability in mind. Both OnTime Windows
and Web Editions (installed and hosted) take advantage of various performance boosting
technologies in Microsoft .NET for added scalability and reliability.
For even more performance, OnTime was designed and optimized for a single database
product from day one: Microsoft SQL Server. This helps us take advantage of performance
and scalability features unique to Microsoft SQL Server, versus being restricted
by generic database instructions.
OnTime Web Edition customers with over 1,000 users can load balance their Web Servers
to help further increase performance and scalability.
What technologies were used to create OnTime?
OnTime was designed and developed from the ground up using Microsoft's .NET Framework
technologies. The code has been written in C# and the Web Edition is written using
ASP.NET, AJAX and .NET.
Additionally, OnTime uses SQL Server for data storage and makes extensive use of
Stored Procedures and SQL Functions to enhance performance. For reporting, OnTime
uses the Data Dynamics ActiveReports Engine for increased functionality and exporting capabilities.
Can I import data from Excel or other bug tracking tool into OnTime?
Absolutely. OnTime's powerful import wizard allows easy integration of existing
data from comma delimited files into the OnTime database. The OnTime Import Wizard
allows easy mapping of fields from your data files into OnTime fields. Also, field
mapping templates can be saved for later reuse.

a local installation of OnTime may serve you better.
